I attended the last DOC (Dean organizing convention) yesterday in Concord NH. This was held for "Dean Leaders", those who will be in charge of GOTV activities. There where 2 held, one in Concord and one in Portsmouth. I think the one in Concord had at least 600 attendees, the one in Portsmouth should have been larger because the south has a much larger population centers. It was really amazing because there are many more volunteers than Dean Leaders.
Karen Hicks (campaign manager in NH) spoke and had great things to say. Basically that we "have the power" - Dean has to be in Iowa pretty much none stop so the Gov is depending on us to hold the fort here.
Instead of letting the lead get chewed up as nomally happens where you end up winning be 4-5 points, we are in charge of holding the line for an impressive showing.
Karen mentioned the dirty tricks that have been happening amoung campaigns and what to do about them. Most interesting though was the "flyer". She brought it up right away, pointing out that it was not in the same catagory as it was pointing out things that are true. But, she noted that the campaign recieved 12 angry calls in a row from supporters saying that this was not consistent with DFA, and the flyers were pulled emmediatly. I found this to be truely amazing, that the regular supporters have so much power in this campaign. She did point out however, that if we are going to play totally nice we are going to have to work harder - and she sure meant it. They asked for alot, and I think they will get it!
